In response to on-going concerns about nitrate contamination in Lower Yakima Valley groundwater, Yakima County is proposing to create a Groundwater Management Area (GWMA) to address nitrate contamination.

According to County officials, the proposed designation would include the Lower Yakima Valley from Union Gap to Benton City, minus the Yakama Reservation.

To learn more about the proposed GWMA, the public is invited to attend a meeting on June 14 hosted by Yakima County. Agency representatives will present information on the need for a GWMA in Yakima County and how a GWMA might function. The public will have an opportunity to share comments on the proposal at the meeting.
