Well Water Safety in the Lower Yakima Valley: Free Community Event May 29th
If you live in the Lower Yakima Valley Groundwater Management Area you may be eligible for a host of services that could help you deal with a high concentrate of nitrates in your well water.
DURING THE EVENT YOU'LL LEARN IF YOU QUALIFY FOR FREE SERVICES
Yakima County in partnership with local agencies, the Washington State Department of Health and the Yakima Health District, is holding a special open house event May 29 in Sunnyside. The event will be held at La Cosecha at 344 North 11th Street in Sunnyside. If you attend you'll learn about a host of free services available to help you.
YOU COULD QUALIFY FOR FREE WATER AND TESTING
You'll learn if you can qualify for free well sampling, free bottled water and or a free water treatment system. Households whose tests indicate that their well’s nitrates are greater than the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) drinking water standard of 10 milligrams per liter will qualify for additional services:
The event is set for May 29 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED INFORMATION ABOUT SERVICES
Targeted mailings to Lower Valley households will continue throughout 2024. Renters and homeowners are encouraged to test their well water using the test strip in the mailing, and to return their results in the self-addressed stamped envelope provided.
For faster service, residents can call the Nitrate Hotline at 1-866-886-7117 to request a test kit packet or to sign up for well water testing and a brief onsite well survey. Water testing and the survey will require homeowner permission.
