Winter weather is blowing into Washington Monday with gusty winds, mountain snow and frigid temperatures that are expected to freeze much of the state through the week.

The National Weather Service expects the snow level to fall to below 500 feet by Monday evening in Western Washington with brief and spotty accumulations of less than an inch on hilltops. Forecasters say snow flurries are possible in Seattle when the Seahawks are playing New Orleans in the Monday night football game.

Forecasters say cold weather will last through the week. High temperatures in Western Washington will barely break the freezing mark and lows will range between 15 and 25.

In Eastern Washington, forecasters expect mountain snow Monday and highs this week in the 20s with lows dropping into single digits.
