VANCOUVER (AP) — A Washington state man found guilty of causing a deadly highway crash has been sentenced to more than two years in prison.

The Columbian reports Dean Imokawa of Battle Ground was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault in the 2015 crash.

Imokawa had been driving a pickup truck on Highway 503 when he tried to pass a Land Rover he was traveling behind in the left lane. He used the right lane to pass and then struck the front of the Land Rover when he tried to merge back into the left lane, sending both vehicles over the median.

Imokawa's truck was hit by another vehicle going the opposite way. The passenger in that vehicle, 86-year-old Eleanor Tapani, also of Battle Ground, died the next day from her injuries.

Imokawa has no previous criminal history.
