SEATTLE (AP) — A man accused of driving off a Seattle freeway ramp and killing a 19-year-old man inside a tent has waived his first court appearance and had bail set at $250,000.

The Seattle Times reports a judge found probable cause Wednesday to hold Oscar Gutierrez-de Jesus on investigation of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run in connection with the Monday crash.

Police say Gutierrez-de Jesus left the off-ramp at the city's University District, went into a grassy median between Interstate 5 and the Northeast 50th Street exit and struck the tent and a tree.

Police found Walter Burton's body and an abandoned car at the scene.

The probable cause statement says a police officer found Gutierrez-de Jesus with an injured foot and wrist at the apartment of the car's registered owner. Police say he showed signs of impairment.

He's expected to be formally charged Thursday.
