Virginia Mason Memorial Receives National Award For Sustainability

Sustainability practices at Virginia Mason Memorial (VMM) have caught the eye of Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit membership organization founded on the principles of positive environmental stewardship and best practices in the health care community.

The result is VMM receiving one of the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Awards, the most prestigious environmental achievement for health care, given annually by the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care.

VMM received this award along with four others in the state: Virginia Mason Hospital & Seattle Medical Center, Seattle Children’s, Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center. Other winners across the country include Cleveland Clinic, Boston Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, N.Y.

Practice Greenhealth chose the top 25 honorees because of commitments to address climate change, limiting chemicals, reducing meat consumption, engaging staff supporting for sustainability programs and showing leadership efforts in their local communities.
