Rain or shine, construction work or not, the Yakima Veterans Day parade along Yakima Avenue is set for 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Yakima city officials were hoping construction work between First and Second streets would be finished over the weekend so the parade could continue as planned, but they won't know that until later Monday.

A water main broke on Yakima avenue causing the street closure. If the work is not finished, city officials say the parade would detour to South Third Street, then to East Chestnut Avenue and South First Street before continuing back on Yakima Avenue.

Newly elected Sheriff Brian Winter and his wife Tammy will serve as Grand Marshals for the procession, which starts at Naches and Yakima avenues.

The day will include a special ceremony at the Korean/Vietnam warn memorial in Sarg Hubbard Park that starts at 1 p.m. There will be a wreath laying and a 21-gun salute by the Yakama Warriors as well as speakers.
