Norma Joiner was on the Morning News today talking about another exciting edition of Highland Community Days, which is this weekend. The event is quintessential small-town Americana, and a great way to recognize the transition from summer to back-to-school and apple harvest season. Plan to attend -- kilts optional! Here's the schedule, according to organizers:

FRIDAY
4 p.m. - Open
Lions Club kiddie rides open
4:30 - Live entertainment begins at the Pavilion in the City Square, 607 Maple St.

SATURDAY
8 a.m.. - Car show
9:45 - Kiddie parade
10 - Grand Parade - Immediately following the parade, the Highland Spirit Squad will perform "The Fling" and another routine at the Pavilion.
Noon - "Coupe de Ville" performs
3 p.m. - "Gone Fiddling Again" performs
5 p.m. - Talent contest (Adult and Youth divisions - free entry with cash prizes)

SUNDAY
10 a.m. - Free pancake feed - Gospel music at the Pavilion will take place immediately following.
Noon - Free backpack giveaway including school supplies. Following the Backpack Giveaway will be the Second Annual Challenge Games. Adults and children compete together with hilarious results!
3 p.m. - Drawing for 50/50 raffle. Last year's winner received $575. Need not be present to win.
4 - Close
