The Building Yakima Can't Forget
This property has gone through a few name changes over the years. Some people remember it as Astria Health, or Regional Hospital, or by its original name, St. Elizabeth Hospital, where many of Yakima's oldest living residents were born.
The hospital's large parking lot has sat empty for the past six years. When Astria Health went bankrupt in 2019 and closed in 2020, local residents began to repurpose the empty space. During the COVID pandemic, for instance, some neighbors used the lot to teach their kids how to ride a bike and also as a makeshift pickleball court.

A New Name for the Former Hospital: 135 Years in the Making
KIMA TV reports that construction on the building will begin soon now that Trouvés Health Care has purchased the building. No timeline has been announced for when the facility plans to open its doors to residents.
Trouvés Health Care, a corporation that currently owns 3 care facilities, plans to open new short-term care, adult family home, and assisted living facilities in Tacoma, Vaughn Bay, and Fife. The corporation also plans to open a nursing college for certified nursing assistants (CNAs) who want to focus on long-term care.
According to the Trouvés Health Care website, the new name of the 115-bed residence serving patients in Eastern Washington will be Trouvés St. Elizabeth's Assisted Living. This name is truly a full-circle moment for the original St. Elizabeth's Hospital, which opened in Yakima more than a century ago in 1891!
