Tree Trimming Project to Disrupt Traffic Wednesday

A tree trimming project happens Wednesday that could impact your way to work or another place you are driving.
The work Wednesday will disrupt traffic on a section of 40th Avenue.
During the project work hours of 9:00 a.m.  to 12:00 p.m., traffic on 40th Avenue will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Arlington Street and Nob Hill Boulevard. A city press release says "access will be maintained as much as possible to homes and businesses in the project area. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

Because of heavy traffic volume, drivers can expect delays in the project area.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the work is completed.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies."

Meanwhile, city road projects continue this spring as crews get busy with host of things that need repair and replacement around the city of Yakima. Crews are very busy along North 1st Street the official entrance to the city of Yakima. Construction crews are replacing the roadway and that's making access to businesses along the street a challenge. Traffic weaves through orange traffic cones. The city is working on the second phase of the North 1st Street project. A new roadway will be built from N Street to J Street. The city is also adding bike lanes, sidewalk and lighting. The work is expected to be done this fall with a new roadway all the way to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
