Treasury Officials Warn of Scam Calls and Emails
Economic impact money is already being sent to people in Yakima and across the country and the scam calls are increasing say officials from the Treasury Department. They say the distribution of money will increase scam phone calls, text messages or emails asking for asking for personal information and claiming you need to provide it to receive the benefits.
The better Business Bureau of Eastern Washington is warning everyone to not give out any information to these fake communications. They say seniors are especially vulnerable to these scams. According to a news release the IRS says no payment or personal information is required to receive a recovery check. The IRS has your tax information and will mail the check directly to you, or use the direct deposit information they have on file from your tax return.
The officials say no one will call or e mail you from the government regarding your check.
If you get a text, phone call, or email asking you for your personal information, do not respond.
