School is back in session in the Toppenish School District, where administrators say they are ready to defend their schools after being trained and armed this past summer. Toppenish is the only district in the valley where a number of administrators are carrying guns. Superintendent John Cerna says parents are happy with the policy and so are teachers and staffers.

He thinks it's inevitable that more school shootings are coming around the country, so it's best to be prepared.

"And most likely," Cerna adds, "it will happen in white suburbia because that's where it's been happening. I just hope it never does, but the odds are that it's going to happen because our schools are easy pickings."

Cerna says with the new policy he's just hoping nothing happens in the Toppenish School District. But if it does, Cerna says administrators are ready. Cerna says there are no signs or other indications at Toppenish that school administrators are armed. He says he's hearing from school districts throughout the country wanting to learn more about the Toppenish policy.
