Yakima is throwing away a lot of garbage and that's creating a shortage of large garbage containers. City officials say since February the city Solid Waste Division has seen an 11 percent increase in the tonnage or garbage generated by residential customers. A lot of people have been requesting the large 96-gallon containers and now there's a shortage. So instead of the larger containers that are in short supply if you need more space in your garbage can the city has a solution until more of the larger containers arrive. City officials can provide two 32-gallon carts for the same price as the larger 96-gallon cart. For more information contact the city solid waste division at 575-6005.
