This Day In History – A Phone More Important Than Your Own
We love our smart phones, Apple, Samsung, other androids. We are addicted to them. We research, watch entertainment, play games, watch sports, text and heck we even talk on them. Some say their life is tied up in their phone.
There are some famous phones - like the Alexander Graham Bell FIRST phone, the rotary dial home phone and of course the bat phone to commissioner Gordon.
But what phone is more famous or more important than the phone line connected on this day 56 years ago.
On this day in 1963, the "Hot Line" communications link between Washington and Moscow went into operation after a lack of direct communication during the Cuban Missile Crisis almost resulted in nuclear war.
If that phone could talk...well, I guess it sorta can...but what I mean is how many near disasters have been avoided because of the existence of The Hot Line?
