If you live in Yakima County you need to know April 15 is not the usual tax deadline.
Due to recent severe winter storms and widespread flooding, the IRS has announced an extension for federal tax filing and payment deadlines for several Washington counties, including Yakima County impacted by the disasters.

YOU HAVE SOME EXTRA TIME SO RELAX

According to the irs.gov The new deadline is now May 1, 2026. IRS officials say the extension covers income tax returns, business filings, and 2025 IRA contributions, giving some relief for those struggling with the impacts of the storms.
For taxpayers who don't live in the impacted areas, the federal tax deadline remains April 15.

A MOVE FOR CAPITAL GAINS

Along with the federal extension, the Washington State Department of Revenue has moved the due date for the 2025 capital gains tax return and payment to May 1, 2026. The move makes sure residents and businesses in affected counties have enough time to comply with state tax laws.

DID YOU FILE FOR AN EXTENSION?

Many taxpayers who want more time to file taxes have already filed for the six-month extension which needed to be filed before April 15.
IRS officials encourage everyone to file electronically. For more information check irs.gov.
