The Colfax County, New Mexico County Manager is expected to start his job in August. The 59-year-old Day has been the Colfax County Manager since 2007. Sunnyside city leaders say one of the first duties for Day will be hiring a new Sunnyside Police Chief.

Sunnyside has been without a city manager since 2012 when the prior manager retired. The City of Sunnyside has had a long history of what some call hiring problems with its city manager position.

In February it had to deal with Frank Sweet. He was fired shortly after being hired as the interim city manager. He was let go after he was charged with theft and stealing and harming public documents while he was city manager in the City of Selah. Sweet is awaiting trial on those charges. He is not in custody.
