Should Older Drivers Have to Retake the Road Test?

Two-thirds of Americans said in a new Marist Poll that drivers should have to retake the road test when they reach 65, because of concerns over possible declines in some physical, mental and visual abilities as people age

Perhaps not surprisingly, support of the new road testing declined with age, with 84 percent of those below the age of 30 supporting it, compared to 76 percent of those aged 30 to 44 and 62 percent of those between 45 and 59. Among people 60 and older, support decreases to just under half of those surveyed. Only two states require older drivers to retake the road test, Illinois and New Hampshire, but only when they reach 75.
