The Yakima City Council wants to share the cost of parades and big events downtown but it did not take action on a proposed policy during the council meeting on Tuesday night. Currently the city pays for security and traffic management for all approved events, but under a new proposal those costs would now be shared or paid in full by the event organizers not the city. City Manager Tony O'Rourke says last year the city paid around $60,000 to support downtown events. But on Tuesday the Yakima City Council decided to pass the issue to a city subcommittee to gather more information at get back to the city council on a later date.

In other business the city gave thumbs up to three cruises along Yakima avenue this summer. The cruises are planned for June, July and September.
