Brandon Spicer,16, of Selah is the winner of the Voice of Democracy essay contest by the Yakima VFW. Spicer wrote an essay that answered the question "Is our constitution still relevant?" His essay was the winner in Yakima. He was honored during a program at the Yakima VFW post last night and was awarded cash and a plaque. He will now compete in the district contest for a chance to move to state competition.

The second place winner was 15-year-old Lisalyn Tormey of Yakima.
