A second suspect in last week's gang related murder near the Yakima Transit Center has been charged. Today, second degree murder charges were filed against 23-year-old Irving David Alvarez in connection with the shooting of Octavio Rangel. The 26-year-old Rangel was gunned down last Tuesday on Chestnut Avenue near the transit center. The other suspect, 15-year-old Daniel Perez, Jr. is also in custody. On Friday, prosecutors announced that they will seek to try Perez as an adult on a first degree murder charge.  State law allows 16- and 17-year-olds to be tried as adults automatically but when they are younger court permission is required. A hearing to move Perez to adult court will be held on November 9th. Until then he is being held on $500,000 bail.
