Yakima County’s Assessor and Treasurer are putting out the warning to seniors about telephone scammers.  It seems a caller claims to have information about property tax relief programs for seniors. That’s when they start asking for personal information.  Officials say that’s a red flag. Giving that information could lead to identify theft.  A state official says the callers identify themselves as agents of “Seniors First” and claim they’re marketing the program on behalf of the state.  Seniors throughout the county are getting the calls.  Senior citizens can legitimately apply for a reduction in property taxes.  You can do that yourself by getting in touch with the Yakima County Assessor’s Office.
