Road and Signal Upgrades Planned in Yakima This Summer

Road and signal work continues in the city of Yakima on Wednesday that could slow down your commute. City officials say they'll be upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of 2nd Street and Yakima Avenue Wednesday, June 29.

During the work on Wednesday the signal will not be working

A press release says crews will be busy an the intersection from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday. The traffic signal will not be in operation during the work hours. Traffic will be restricted to one lane each direction with stop signs at the 4-way stop. City officials are going to be busy this summer. They say this is third in a series of 11 traffic signal upgrades the City is planning for intersections along Yakima Avenue over the next two months. The improvements include upgrading to larger, more efficient 12-inch LED signal heads. Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour. As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.

Work at a Yakima intersection on Wednesday will impact traffic

A project to grind and overlay the intersection of 18^th Avenue and Summitview Avenue will impact traffic much of tomorrow, Wednesday, June 29^th.

During the project work hours of 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane at the intersection. In addition, 18^th Avenue will be closed to traffic from Summitview Avenue to Eleanor Street.

The city started the chip seal program on Tuesday

Yakima city crews started the annual chip sealing program Tuesday. The work is happening on Nob Hill Boulevard and Washington Avenue between 64th Avenue and 75th Avenue. City officials say there will be road closures and detours during the project. The chip seal program in these areas is expected to last three to four weeks.
