Yakima Police say they haven't seen a major increase in domestic violence during the first three weeks of March compared to previous years. Capt. Jay Seely says YPD tracks crime trends and they're looking at how the COVID-19 stay-at-home order is affecting people in Yakima.

Seely says with so many people at home and close to each other, police expected to see an increase in the number of domestic violence cases.

But that's not the case -- at least not so far. In fact, statistics from police show the number of domestic violence incidents are now down compared to the same time in 2018 and 2019. Seely says 103 domestic violence incidents were reported in the first three weeks of March 2018, while 81 were reported in 2019. This year, the number of domestic violence incidents is 54.

Seely says they plan to review numbers at the end of the month to see if any crime trends are increasing as a result of the stay-at-home order by local and state officials.
