Iconic Yakima independent record store Off The Record is shuttering their doors for good in less than a few weeks. To close it up with a bang, they will have an entire day of live music from local bands performing on their indoor stage this Saturday (9/7) from noon-8 p.m.

Tempest will headline the concert as their way of showing thanks and appreciation to owners Gary and Twila for their encouragement of area artists over the years.

It's not hard to comprehend how important live and local music is and was to them, as evidenced by their own words on their store's website:

"We at Off The Record believe that all great music begins at the local level and the real magic happens here. Without the hard work put into keeping a local band going and all the tremendous talent and skill involved, and the local venues that showcase the bands, the art of music would simply die out. We love our local music community and all the fantastic people who keep it going. We are eternally grateful. You understand how much THE MUSIC REALLY MATTERS."

Every musician and/or band that ever played the room was encouraged to sign "The Wall" and decorate it with set lists and such. It became a very special spot for many aspiring musicians locally.

In one last show of gratitude from the day's performers to the store's proprietors the "passing of the hat" for tips normally meant for the musicians will all be given to Gary and Twila to help them enjoy their retirement.
