North First Street To See Big Improvements

The City Council North First Street Committee is meeting today to talk about sidewalk, landscaping and lighting improvements to North First Street. Many business owners are expected at the meeting set for 4 today in the city Public Works training room. It's an attempt to clean up and improve one of Yakima's busiest arterials. Over the past couple of months, Huibregtse, Louman Associates, Inc. and Hough Beck & Baird, Inc. have been doing preliminary work on improvements that will enhance both the appearance and safety of North 1st Street, one of Yakima’s key commercial corridors. HLA is a well-known Yakima civil engineering firm. HBB designed the concept for the sidewalk, lighting, and landscaping improvements that have been made over the last several years as part of the downtown Yakima futures initiative.

a $25,000 grant from the yakima county strategic investment in economic development (“sied”) program is paying for the work being done by HLA and HBB.
