Main Street will be closed from just south of Valley Mall Boulevard for about two blocks to E. Chestnut Street in Union Gap for two consecutive nights while crews repave Main Street starting May 19. The work will be done during nighttime hours to minimize the impacts to traffic.

Main Street traffic will be detoured onto Valley Mall Boulevard and South Rudkin Road during paving from 9 p.m. Thursday, May 19 to about 6 a.m. Friday, May 20, and again from 9 p.m. Friday, May 20 to about 6 a.m. Saturday, May 21.

Grooved pavement will still remain on Main St., north of Valley Mall Blvd. Drivers are encouraged to go slowly to avoid kicking up rocks. Motorcycle riders use caution.

All of the businesses along the project are open. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Apollo Inc. are working hard to maintain access to those businesses while doing what is necessary to stay on schedule and on budget for this $34.3 million project.

The project is scheduled to be completed in mid September, 2011.
