More people are applying for concealed weapons permits in both the city and county this year when compared to this same time last year. Yakima Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says the requests have tripled since the end of last month. "Normally we would get 2 to 3 a day and now we're seeing 10 a day. And  we're also seeing a tripling of gun transfers."  Bastinelli says many people are concerned about terrorism or a lone shooter in the community. The Yakima County Sheriff's office says it's also seen a small increase in applications for concealed weapons permits this year when compared to 2014. The county averaged 200 permits last year. Today that number stands at 263 and growing and the year isn't over yet.
