A Yakima K-9 Officer named Havoc was killed while off duty last month, and now the police department is holding a memorial ceremony at 3 p.m. Monday in front of the law and justice center on South Third Street.

Department officials say they hope to soon replace the four-legged officer. Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli says the problem is the cost, which is $16,000. Currently the department has three K-9s on patrol funded by private donations.

The department is hoping to find another funding source to place another K-9 on the force.

Anyone who is willing to help is asked to contact the Yakima Police Department at 575-6200.
