Amanda McKinney says while she's not yet claiming victory in the Yakima County Commission race she's thrilled she received a majority of the vote on Tuesday. McKinney says she's being cautious but she's currently defeating Vicki Baker 54% to 43%. More ballots were counted on Wednesday and no races changed.
McKinney has spent years as a mortgage broker and with favorable interest rates she's been crazy busy this year but she says she's ready to set aside her mortgage job and work full time for taxpayers as the new Yakima County Commissioner in District 1.
McKinney says while she hopes she has some input in the upcoming process to appoint a new commissioner in District 3 she's not demanding she be put in place to make a decision. She says Baker was duly appointed and it's part of Bakers job to make the appointment to replace Commissioner Norm Childress who died in September.
She's hoping to win over those who voted for Baker through hard work.
McKinney will be on The Morning News at 7:15 a.m. Thursday to talk further about election night.
