Man Shot Runs Car Into Ditch Dies In Surgery

YAKIMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE -- On February 2, 2012 at about 3:45 p.m. the Yakima Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting that had occurred outside of a residence in the 6200 block of Lateral B Road. The victim drove away from the residence after being shot. Minutes later, the victim drove his vehicle into a ditch in the 6300 block of Lateral A Road. He was transported by ambulance to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He had suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim died during surgery at about 6:00 p.m.

The victim is an Hispanic male, age 36. The victim lived at the residence where the shooting occurred. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy has been scheduled for February 3. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
