PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters say a man is dead following a Saturday morning fire at a northwest Washington state home.

Officials tell KOMO-TV that firefighters responded at about 8:40 a.m. to the house fire in Port Townsend.

Bill Beezley with East Jefferson Fire and Rescue says crews arrived to find flames shooting out of the house's basement and a man standing in the yard yelling for another man to get out.

Beezley says the man wasn't injured. Firefighters entered the house and found the second man about 10 feet from the door.

Firefighters pulled him out and attempted life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn't been released.

Authorities haven't determined a cause for the fire, and say the house is uninhabitable with tens of thousands of dollars in damages.
