Man Charged After Injuring Newborn

27 year old Zeshawn Durani was charged Thursday with second degree assalt of a child after being arrested earlier this month for beating his girlfriend and injuring a 6 day old baby she was carrying. The baby is currently in foster care recovering. The judge Thursday restricted Durrani's use of the jail phone to only call his lawyer after he tried to get his girlfriend to take back her claims. According to Yakima County Court documents, doctor's say the newborn could suffer permanent brain damage from the injury.
