The Lower Yakima Valley community is invited to a presentation on the future YV-Tech Center Sunnyside Campus and the vocational programs that will be offered to area youth. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at the Denny Blaine Boardroom located at 810 E. Custer Ave in Sunnyside.

Construction of the 11,700 square foot building will begin this summer and be complete by the fall of 2014. The $6.2 million facility was selected for funding by the state legislature last year. It will house a variety of YV-Tech vocational programs that will be offered to Sunnyside students, as well as students from surrounding communities. The programs partner with Yakima Valley Community College, Perry Technical Institute, The Pacific NW Regional Council of Carpenters, Job Corp, and other technical and community colleges to provide advanced placement, apprenticeship training, and free college credits for high school students. YV-TECH is currently developing programs in partnership with Boeing, Puget Sound Ship Yard, and the Central Washington Police Academy. Currently, over 90 percent of the YV-TECH programs connect to post-secondary training. This significantly reduces student-training time, costs, and allows students early entrance into the workforce with entry-level industrial skills.
