Looking For A Ride? New Bus Service Between Yakima And Ellensburg

Yakima Transit and HopeSource, a non-profit human services provider in Kittitas County, will began providing bus service between Ellensburg and Yakima today.

Shuttle buses that hold up to 15 passengers will make eight trips a day, Monday through Friday. It will cost riders $3.00 for a one-way ticket and $6.00 for a round trip. Monthly passes will also be available for $100 and will be good for unlimited rides.

A grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation will cover about half of the estimated $528,000 cost of what will be a two-year pilot project for the Ellensburg/Yakima service. The remainder of the cost is being split between Yakima Transit and HopeSource.

The buses will make three stops in Ellensburg. The stops will be at the Student Union and Recreation Center on the CWU campus, at the Ellensburg Safeway (400 N. Ruby St.), and at the Ellensburg Super 1 Foods (200 East Mountain View Ave.).

Riders in Yakima can also choose from three stops, which include at J.M Perry Institute, Yakima Valley Community College, and the downtown transit center. Buses will also stop at the Yakima Training Center just east of Selah.

Riders who pay for a ticket between Ellensburg and Yakima will also be able to ride other buses in the Ellensburg and Yakima transit systems for no additional charge.
