You can still make products in the USA and be successful in the marketplace.  That's what Liberty Bottleworks of Union Gap set out to prove when it started it's company two years ago.  Today the company was honored for it's efforts, and has been given the first ever Sassy award, an award given for the first ever American made outdoor competition.  Liberty bottleworks co-founder Ryan Clark says "we make the best bottle out there, but it's really about remaking our country's economy and proving that American-made products can compete in every aspect of the market."   The competition was hosted by Paddlesports gear maker Kokatat and Liberty was chosen over 50 other US manufacturers.   Liberty Bottleworks began producing its American made, BPA-free, aluminum water bottles in 2010 at a purpose-built factory in Union Gap.  The company employs 32 people who make the bottles from U.S.-sourced recycled aluminum on America-made machinery in the factory. The award  was open to any American outdoor gear manufacturer, and as the winner, Liberty will take one-year ownership of the "Sassy" traveling trophy -- a hand carved, 3-foot-tall, redwood Sasquatch from Humboldt County, Calif. An official "Sassy" presentation will be made at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, Utah in January.
