Lawmakers Push To Put Income Tax Idea To Bed For Good
Another push for a state income tax and another year in Olympia. Democrats in the Washington State Legislature continue to work toward a tax on capital gains income. Ellensburg Rep. Matt Manweller says the state supreme court has said it may favor a income tax. But he says that's enough. Manweller and 37 other republicans are hoping legislation introduced this year will put an end to the possibility of an income tax. "I dropped a constitutional amendment specifically banning an income tax in the State of Washington."
Manweller is hoping house joint resolution 4207 is approved so it can go before voters in November. The measure is set to be heard in the house finance committee.
