Jury trials in Yakima County Superior Court are expected to resume on September 14th. Jury trials have been cancelled since the beginning of the pandemic in mid-march because of concerns about the spread of the virus. Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic says in an effort to be as safe as possible jury selection for trials will be held at the Yakima Valley Sundome.

Brusic says they'll use large space of the Sundome to create social distancing so people can feel safe during jury selection. Brusic says once jurors are chosen trials will happen inside the Yakima County Courthouse. He says re-opening the court is vital to keeping the criminal justice system productive and making sure people are held accountable. Brusic says the top priority is keeping the public safe.
