Prosecutors say Thompson used excessive force in beating Otto Zehm during a confrontation at a store. If convicted, Thompson faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of making false statements to investigators.
