Spokane Locals Roast Report Saying It's a Top Livable City in USA

IS SPOKANE WASHINGTON A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE?

A recent report from Livability.com seems to think Spokane is not only an amazing city, it's also one of the best places to live in America. The website ranks Spokane as the #66th town in the country for the best overall livability.

I've only been to Spokane once, and that was over twenty years ago, so I have no dog in this fight.

I really did enjoy my visit there, and over the years, I've often felt a desire to go back there for a day trip.

The report highlights great features about living in Spokane, from its proximity to wineries, outdoor activities, the Canadian border, and the 76 nearby lakes.

After KHQ Spokane Nonstop Local News reported on the story at the first day of May, a screenshot from the newscast landed its way onto a popular private Spokane memes Facebook group. (Since it's private, I'm not allowed to show you any of the screenshots, sorry!)

Locals in the comment section have been knocking themselves out roasting the report and the city of Spokane itself with hilarious quotes and reactions.

As of the time of this writing, over 300 comments from Spokanites have filled the comment section about this story.

Seems like some of the people living in Spokane believe this report is preposterous, hilarious, and incorrect.

WHY ARE PEOPLE IN SPOKANE ROASTING THIS LIVABILITY REPORT?

The #1 reason for such a panned reaction from some of the Spokane locals? Livability.com's report mentions the "low cost of living" as a benefit of living there.

The Spokane locals were like, "Low cost of living-WHERE?"

Commenters quickly responded that it is NOT cheap to live in the Spokane city limits, and that there are a lot of homeless people living in the streets (and some under bushes).

Another Waldorf and Statler-esque commenter replied that maybe there was a typo and the report meant that Spokane is the #66th best city to live...in the state of Washington.

One commenter did point out that the best part of this report means that there are "65 other better places to live" than Spokane. That made me giggle.

MY REACTION TO THE SPOKANE REPORT

I would agree that the cost of living pretty much anywhere in Washington state is not very affordable unless you have a job(s) that pays you enough to survive. The cost of living in Washington is 17% higher than the national average.

There are some truly unique things about Spokane that makes it one of America's most interesting cities, from the shopping to the local events and festivals, to the live music concert connections.
