We all should love our city. Yes, it’s not perfect, but it’s ours, so we need to help keep it nice, and that does take a lot of work and help. And with many issues Yakima faces, you need to prioritize, and that’s what the Yakima Police Department is trying to do.

Asking For Resident Input

The Yakima Police Department posted on their social media earlier this week a couple of different polls wanting feedback.

Taking to their social media page, they launched two polls dealing with issues in our city.

“YPD is scheduling 2026 Town Hall meetings and is seeking public input on topics. What would you like to know about police operations?” – YPD Facebook

Asking the public about which topics are important to us, and what we’d like to learn more about, and receive a greater amount of focus, in order to keep us safe as well as informed.

Yakima Police Department Survey

The two different surveys asked about different police divisions, and which we’d be more interested in learning more about.

Patrol, Corrections, Administrative, and Criminal Investigations. Among the responses in the poll, as of this writing, Criminal Investigation (Major Crimes, Narcotics, Property Crimes, Cold Cases, Forensic, etc.) had the highest interest with 62%, while the Patrol Division (Uniformed officers like traffic, neighborhood resources, community services, etc.) came in 2nd with 27% of the vote.

In the 2nd survey, the Yakima Police Department is asking what topics of interest we are more concerned about.

Topics like: Homelessness, Law Enforcement Budget, FLOCK Cameras, Crime Stats, Traffic Complaints, Officer Wellbeing, Recruiting, K9 program, etc.

Among these topics, Homelessness and related issues and FLOCK Cameras are the top choices, with 49% and 18% the vote, respectively, with Violent Crime Stats coming in 3rd with 11%.
