Hey Yakima! Recycle, Make Money, Help A Great Cause This Month
For anyone who knows my father, Jeff, knows that he’s a great guy, who worked hard his entire life.
After he retired he stayed active by saving the world in his own little way.
He recycled!
My family always recycled pop cans and growing up, my brother and I never received an allowance, we were paid by recycling pop cans.
After he realized he could make more money being retired than working for a hotel as their maintenance technician, he chose to stay active, and focused more and more on recycling.
Cardboard, paper, pop cans, and other scrap metal. If you could recycle it, he started collecting it.
When his giant red pickup truck was full, over the cab, he would strap everything down and drive from Naches to Yakima to get his ‘cigarette money’.
That is his fun little joke, because he hasn’t smoked in over 15 years, and his ‘play money’ annoys my stepmom.
It looks like, thanks to Earth Day and Pacific Steel and Recycling, he might be getting a lot more ‘play money’ and not only will he be helping out planet Earth, but a great local charity too!
Posted on Pacific Steel and Recycling Yakima’s Facebook page is a way to help recycle, get a little bit more per can, and best of all, help out Rod’s House!
“From April 2nd to April 30th, we’ll be paying $0.50 per pound. Additionally, for every pound collected, we will donate $0.05 to Rod’s House, supporting a great cause while helping the environment!”
Rod’s House is a fantastic organization that helps provide homeless services for youth and young adults in the Yakima Valley. Shelter, clothing, education, food, employment, and so much more. For more information on Rod’s House, visit their website at RodsHouse.org.
