Not only is Saturday Star Wars Day (May the 4th), but even better, it's FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!

It's quite possibly my favorite holiday! (If you don't think it's a holiday, then good; more comics for me.)

When you think about it, Free Comic Book Day might just be THE BEST Holiday!

Think about it: every other holiday, you have to spend money buying food or gifts for other people. Those other holidays can put a major drain on your bank account.

Whereas Free Comic Book Day is just that… FREE!

YES… I know, I'm guilty of it. I go into the comic shops and get my free books, but then I look around and end up dropping some cash, so yes, this holiday, you MAY spend money.

But it's a local business, and it's helping an industry that has given back so much in terms of stories, escapes, role models, and entertainment!

What is Free Comic Book Day?

Free Comic Book Day is the first Saturday in May and is a way to help introduce people to the joys of comics! The holiday can introduce people to art and literature in a way that may be new to them.

Comics span ALL AGES and ALL GENRES. Superhero, Horror, Romance, Western, War, Historical, Religious, giant turtles who are ninja mutants, yep, there are books for those (that's where the Turtles got their start).

As of this time last year, more than 2,300 book outlet stores in the U.S. celebrated this amazing, nerdy holiday! And it has been spreading worldwide!

The History of Free Comic Book Day

The first Free Comic Book Day was in 2002 to help spread the excitement of the first Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) film.
