Despite all the talk about budget cuts the city council has decided to hire 6 police officers to beef up the fight against local crime. The officers will fill 6 current vacancies in the department. With the budget already a million dollars short the hiring of the officers will come in the form of cuts in other departments or a proposed utility tax increase. City Manager Don Cooper says it's a matter of balancing essential services with a quality of life services. The budget is already 1.3 million dollars out of balance for 2012 so the city council has a big job over the next couple of months...find money to hire the 6 officers and balance the budget by December
