At 02:25:08 hrs this morning, the Yakima Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the 700 block of South 5th Avenue. Four engines, a truck company and Battalion Chief Castilleja responded to this incident.

On arrival, crews found a single story residence with heavy fire showing from the back of the structure. There was a report that there may have been someone in the structure. YPD officers were also on scene and had forced open the front door to search for occupants. Crews made a quick attack on the fire, knocking down the main body, then made entry to conduct a search and extinguish the remainder of the fire. Fire crews found that the house was vacant and no one was found in the structure.

Crews then conducted overhaul operations extinguishing small fires in walls and in debris.

At the time of this report fire department investigators including Wesley, the sniffing investigator dog, were at the scene determining the cause of the fire. No fire department personnel nor civilians were hurt at this incident.
