A 47-year-old man is in custody after Yakima County sheriffs were called to a domestic violence situation at the 10400 block of Highway 12.

The man was involved in an altercation with his wife and son that had included threats and shots being fired into the ground.

When deputies arrived, the man barricaded himself in a travel trailer. It was confirmed that he was armed with a rifle. Negotiations continued for more than an hour before they broke down and the suspect exited the trailer with the rifle pointed as his own head and asking deputies to shoot him. The deputy who had been negotiating with the suspect was able to convince the man to eventually drop the gun.

The suspect has been booked into the Yakima County Correctional Facility on charges of felony harassment and reckless endangerment. According to the press release from the Sheriff's office, Yakima Comprehensive Mental Health has also been asked to assist the suspect.

There were no injuries to any officers or witnesses in the incident.
