It's safe. That's the word from officials at the Columbia Generating Station on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. They say they've been getting a lot of questions about safety following the earthquake and tnsunami in Japan. Spokesman Mike Paoli says they have numerous systems to backup the plant that would cool the core if the power is out. He says the plant is designed to continue operating under a 6.9 quake within about 12 miles. In fact today officials at the Station are conducting an excercise that simulates a problem at the plant. It's a planned excercise that happens 2 times a year. Many emergency officials in the Tri City area are involved in todays mock incident.
