Archie Mathews is helping a lot of people keep their property clean of graffiti. Mathews is the manager of the Yakima Office of Neighborhood Development The office helps low income residents and seniors with home repairs and cleanups and anyone with a problem with graffiti. Mathews says he's starting to hear from people who need help with graffiti cleanup because he says "typically when kids first get out of school we see a big increase then when kids go back to school we see a big increase in graffiti problems." In 2013, Mathews says they used 700 gallons of paint to erase more than 12,500 different locations of graffiti. He says they're doing the same this year. The office uses information from the Yak Back feature on the Yakima City website where anyone can to report everything from graffiti to burned out street lights. Or you can call the office at 575 6101. All the services, including graffiti cleanup are free of charge.
