More containment in the Schneider Springs Fire on Thursday. The fire is now at 10% containment. Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest say the fire grew from 84,509 acres Thursday to 85,639 acres Today.

AREAS ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND

The Tieton River and Rimrock Lake are now both open for the Labor Day Weekend but camp fire restrictions are still in place.

On Thursday forest officials say “crews made good progress continuing the firing operation on the southern portion of the fire along Bethel Ridge through the day and into the night. They were assisted by favorable winds from the south that pushed the smoke back into the fire area and added depth to the burnout. Crews and engines also continued mopping up along Bethel Ridge and the southwestern portion of the fire to cool the perimeter and contain the fire.”

NO LABOR DAY WEEKEND OFF FOR FIREFIGHTERS

The fight continues into the long weekend. Today Firefighters will complete work to contain the southern perimeter of the fire from Bethel Ridge to the William O. Douglas Wilderness boundary to the west. Drones are being used on the firelines. The drones are able to drop small incendiary devices between the main fire area and the current perimeter on Bethel Ridge to burn parts of the landscape that could help spread the fire.
Crews and engines will continue mopping up and securing Bethel Ridge behind the firing crews to increase containment. A press release says "along Bumping River Road, firefighters will continue to monitor fire activity above Soda Springs and will initiate firing to bring fire down to the river as needed to safeguard structures along the river corridor. On the northeast portion of the fire, crews are finishing construction of the indirect fire line off FR 250 behind Gold Creek and Cliffdell. While fire activity remains moderate in that area, crews are prepared to initiate a firing operation to secure that line and protect private property along Highway 410 if necessary."

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AND LOTS OF EQUIPMENT REMAIN ON FIRE LINES

861 people and resources are working the fire with 22 hand crews, 50 engines, 8 dozers, 12 aircraft and 25 other pieces of heavy equipment.

Evacuation levels were updated on Monday and they have not changed.
Officials at Yakima Valley Emergency Management say Bumping River Road area has dropped to LEVEL 2
From the intersection of Highway 410 and Highway 12 (the "Y") to Bumping RIver Road the evacuation level is now at LEVEL 1. Firefighters say
the evacuation levels pertain to private property owners only, not forest lands use activities or locations.

While firefighters are hoping the fire will be doused sooner than later they are pushing for an October 1 goal of fully containing the fire on that day.
