Body of Seattle Deputy Fire Chief Located Near Cliffdell

It took 12 days but Searchers on Sunday found the body of a Seattle Deputy Fire Chief missing since November 2.

Searchers say there's no sign of foul play

According to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and Seattle Fire Department 56-year-old Jay Schreckengost was found in tough terrain after he became lost while scouting for elk in the Cliffdell area. His family last heard from him on November 2 when they received a text. But he was never heard from again. Searchers found his truck at the beginning of the search but there was no sign of Schreckengost. However on Sunday his body was found about a half of a mile from where his truck was found on a US Forest Service Road near Whistlin’ Jack’s Lodge.
Authorities say there's no evidence of foul play.

Hundreds of people were involved in the 12 day search

At the height of the search upwards of 100 people were involved including professionals from the Seattle Fire Department, Yakima and Kittitas County Sheriff’s offices, special K9 and 4x4 teams. The incident even involved drones that used bluetooth technology for the first time in a search operation. The technology tried to pick up the bluetooth fitbit that Schreckengost was wearing when he was lost.

Kittitas County Sheriff Clay Myers says “We’re saddened to give news of Chief Schreckengost’s passing to his family and fellow firefighters, and we ask the public and press to respect their privacy as they grieve his loss. We also want to thank everyone who participated in or supported this search. It was a tremendous outpouring of resources and effort that produced a vital result: a family knows what happened to their loved one and he can be brought home to them.”
There's no word on how searchers found his body on Sunday.
