Time to move out of the garage gym and into a fitness center. Governor Jay Inslee says he's agreed to allow fitness centers in Yakima and 4 other counties to open under Phase 2 COVID-19 guidelines. The fitness centers must follow restrictions that may take some more time than others to prepare so the times and days may vary as to when the centers will be open. The Executive Director of the Yakima YMCA says he's happy the state finally allowed Yakima fitness centers to open after weeks of talks between local, regional and state officials and the governors office. Romero says the YMCA Yakima Rotary Aquatic Center on 40th Avenue will open at 5:30 a.m. next Tuesday. The YMCA downtown location fitness center will not be open since it will be used for a virtual learning center for kids k-5 starting on Monday. A news release from the governor's office says "effective today, indoor fitness and training facilities are allowed to operate in Modified Phase 1 counties under Phase 2 guidance. This means that facilities like gyms, yoga studios, and indoor sports facilities can open for personal fitness and training, group fitness classes, and practice for certain low- and medium-contact sports. Occupancy is limited to ensure proper physical distancing, and masks are required."
